Kulinda mobile app — privacy policy
The Kulinda app lets anyone check that a medicine or other protected product carries a genuine Kulinda security label, and report counterfeit labels and the illegal sale of free medicines. This page explains what the app collects and why.
What the app collects
- The serial number read from the label (barcode, or typed by hand).
- Your answers: whether the security code matches the label and, for Red labels, whether you paid for the medicine.
- The date and time of the check.
- The location of the phone (GPS position and its accuracy) when you allow it. It is only taken while you use the app, never in the background.
- Only if you choose to report a product after a failed check: the name of the shop or pharmacy, where it is, your comment and a photo of the product. These are sent to the Kulinda team for investigation; they are never sent without your agreement.
- Technical details: a random identifier created by the app on first use (not your phone number, IMEI or advertising ID), the app version and the phone system (Android or iOS).
The app does not collect your name, phone number, contacts, photos or any account information. The camera is only used to read the barcode; no picture is stored or sent.
Why
- To show you whether the product is genuine (the check itself is done on your phone and works without internet).
- To alert the authorities about counterfeit labels and the sale of free medicines, and to see where they occur.
- To produce statistics on where and when products are checked.
Sharing
Reports are sent to the Kulinda program of the country printed on the label and may be shared with the competent authorities (ministry of health, medicines regulator, revenue authority, bureau of standards) and with the brand owner of the product concerned. They are never sold or used for advertising.
Storage and retention
Your checks are kept on your phone (history) until you delete them or uninstall the app. Reports received by Kulinda are kept for as long as needed for the program and the investigations, and transmitted over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
Your choices
You can refuse or withdraw the location permission in the phone settings at any time; the app keeps working. You can delete any check from the history in the app. To ask about the data linked to your device, contact us and give the date and serial number of the check.
